Definition of Plagiarism
Plagiarism is presenting another person’s words, ideas, or works as one’s own, without proper permission, acknowledgment, or citation. It can occur in various forms:
-
Literal Copying
Copying text, in whole or in part, word-for-word from another source without citation, acknowledgment, or permission. -
Substantial Copying
Reproducing a substantial portion of another author’s work without acknowledgment. Substantial here may refer to both quantity (large portions of text) and quality (important or central ideas of the work). -
Paraphrasing without Citation
Restating ideas, phrases, or sentences from another source without giving proper credit. Even if rewritten, failure to acknowledge the original source constitutes plagiarism.
Policy on the Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)
PJEB recognizes that AI-based tools (such as ChatGPT, Bard, and similar large language models) can assist authors in improving grammar, language style, and technical editing. However, the following rules apply:
-
AI tools must not be listed as authors of the manuscript.
-
AI assistance may be used only for language improvement, formatting, or proofreading.
-
The intellectual contribution, originality, and critical analysis must come from the authors themselves.
-
Authors are required to acknowledge any significant use of AI tools in the methodology or acknowledgments section.
-
Manuscripts generated primarily by AI, without substantive contribution from the authors, will be rejected.
Editorial Action
If plagiarism or inappropriate use of AI is detected:
-
The manuscript will be rejected without review.
-
Depending on the severity, authors may be blacklisted from future submissions.
PJEB is committed to promoting the highest standards of publication ethics and expects all authors to strictly adhere to ethical writing practices.
